Cyclops!

I wrote to Clive Cussler last month. For those who don't know, Clive is a modern writer of adventure fiction. I have been reading his books for years. Check out his stuff at his website Well, this week I received a HANDWRITTEN RESPONSE from the pen of Clive Cussler. How much fun is that? Here ya go!
A handwritten letter and an autograph. I am sorta geeked out by this. I bought and read one of his books just this past week and then donated the read book to our school library. Who have you written to lately?

  1. Hi Troy!!

I've been wanting to read his books for most of 2010/2011. I finally settled on an 'order' to get into two of his series (which of course, for me, meant going baack to the very beginning of each... i suppose you could call that a 'quirk' of mine) yet each time I came close I had something distract me! :( Sighs. I'm going to try again as soon as I read through the complete Mary Russell (& Sherlock Holmes) series by Laurie R. King currently checked out from the library AND the first 5 books of Aunt Dimity soon to be re-checked out as well.

I emailed Laurie R. King and she personally emailed me back. This was less than a month ago,... you'd be surprised who will contact you. Wicked sweet on having a handwritten note coming back to you! :) Awesome!

    Your sunshine friend.

PS: What does the note say!? I couldn't make out his handwriting!? And which of his books do you love the most!? And, if your discovering a new author for the first time do you go back to the beginning of an in-progress series OR do you start at the last published and move backwards!?

  4. Thank you for your comments! The note says:
    Dear Troy,
Thank you for your nice letter and kind words.
I don't have any bookmarks, so I used a file label.
    All the best,
    Clive Cussler
p.s. I lived 30 years in Colorado and never heard of Holyoke

  5. I asked him for a bookmark. And yes Becky, his works are very good as audio books.

  6. I've always thought that each of his books can stand on its own merits. I prefer the Clive Cussler written ones to those that have additional authors. Start with Iceberg or Cyclops and trace the adventures of Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino as they save the world from countless heinous plots of destruction. Reading books that span 30+ years of authorship is fun to see who the bad guys are.

  7. Not you? I don't think it was intentional, but we lost contact.

  8. Hi there!

I love Clive Cussler books and am currently reading his Atlantis book. So awesome that you received a hand written note from him. Definitely a keeper. :) I'am embarking on a search for penpals as i have given up any hope that my family and friends will ever pick up a pen or lick a stamp. Any help you can give me in that respect would be greatly appreciated! deb
